I finally got Amaze installed, running, and working (currently) without constant communication errors.

The communication (to their server) seems to be a common problem for many when trying to install and then first trying to use it, as posters on other forums had noted.

You can download and install it directly from thsir website, but when I tred to set up an account (you have too to use it), it would "comunication problem" before I could even get the user name entered (these are assigned when you visit the website to download it).

I finally downloaded the JAD/JAR files and used the TK file package to get them loaded.  For some reason. i did not time out right away this time and managed to get through the setup OK.

But in using it the first few days, it continued to have the comm. problems.  Again, for reasons unknown, it has not had this problem for the last few days.

If Navtec was free, I would prefer it, as it has traffic also.  But for free, this one wins.  It may be a pain to get it set up, but it is worth it.

I'm new to the memoir world and to downloading stuff on my phone, so please excuse my simple question...
but, am I supposed to download it from my phone or from my computer then transfer it to my phone?

Then, off topic, Blckberry and iPhone have this app you can get where an alarm goes off if someone picks up your phone. Great for my trying to be sneaky friends. You know if there is anything like this for the Memoir?

I am having a rough time trying to get Google Maps running.  I have installed both the .jar and .jad file for v2.3.2 and it starts to load and then displays "Unknown Error Serious Error. Please exit and restart"  yeah so should I be using a different version?  I am also curious what your Java settings are within admin settings?  I have mine set up to use Internet2.voicestream.net.  What is the link for this software > Amaze?

Well guys, I went to the Amaze Web site on the phone, d/l ed it to the phone, installed, walked thru the install, and it's up and running with no problems. No communication problems with the d/l install, or even ploting my way to work.  Seems pretty good, I will have to try it out on my way to work in an hour, and will report back later.

As a note, Amaze is now a pay service. There are limited services you can use for free — adding to favorites, looking at existing sites, and so on — but to use the turn-by-turn navigation, you need to pay a per-month or per-year charge.

It's $3.99/month, so it's less than half of what TeleNav charges, but it's no longer in the same price point as Google Maps with GPS navigation.
