I'm sorry if this is a repost, but I couldn't find any information on this topic.

So I was wondering if you guys knew how to change the settings so that when the phone rings (or when you get a text message) the ringer/alert starts out loud instead of starting out low and then getting louder?

mine doesnt start lower. it just comes out at the regular volume. my behold did do the same thing as your phone though and i dont think there was a way to fix it other than editing the track to have silence for like the first 3 seconds

Go to
Menu>
Settings>
Sound Profiles>
Tap "Normal" (not the box w/the circle inside but tap the word itself), something should apear (Call,Message,Phone Tone Settings) now tap the "Call alert type" and then choose "Increasing melody" or "Vib. & increasing melody" that should solve your problem.  Grin
